All I wanted was a brand new love song To play you something that you’d never heard It could be kind of old-fashioned With thinly-veiled passions But I would mean every word But I’d nothing really new to tell you Ah, you must have heard it all before ‘Cos if it’s new days or old days I love you like always ‘Cos I can do nothing more There have been so many seasons but here comes another spring Questions been asked and answers been answered nothing’s changed a thing So I came up with this tune this evening And I hope it tells you how I feel Because nobody will love you The way that I love you ‘Cos we have got something real

I got friends from Nice to Monterrey Don’t see many of them day to day They could hardly be more wonderful All the weird lovely people that I know People scattered all around the world Some are old and some just boys and girls They could hardly be more loveable All the weird lovely people that I know How did I ever get so lucky I could meet them all? How did I ever get so fortunate? It’s been a ball I got friends from Greece to New Orleans Everybody’s shooting different scenes They could hardly be more glamorous All the weird lovely people that I know How did I ever get so lucky I could meet them all? How did I ever get so fortunate? It’s been a ball I got friends from Rome to Dublin Bay Don’t see many of them day to day They could hardly be more fabulous All the weird lovely people that I know They could hardly be more wonderful All the weird lovely people that I know

High afternoon in the redwoods and the basins You and me walking home from the old plantation No time like this time and no love like this love with you Ghosts of calliopes sing their operettas To the Ohio and nothing could be better No time like this time and no love like this love with you Hauling down organza, tearing up the hill It’s a strange place that we live in and I hope we always will Different kinds of madness, different kinds of man It’s a strange place that we live in and I hope we always can Come New Year’s Day at the lakeshore we’ll be saying Wish time would stop now and leave us here just playing No time like this time and no love like this love with you Hauling down organza, tearing up the hill It’s a strange place that we live in and I hope we always will Different kinds of magic, different kinds of man It’s a strange place that we live in and I hope we always can

The sun is down And when the night comes falling It brings familiar shadows calling me And lost for words, you seem to be An evening star, a mystery. The sun is down And with the dark around us It brings back every kind of memory Of long ago, of meant-to-be, Of things we found that set us free Now is the time for dreaming, dreaming away, The hall of fame, the county hall, the faded print that says it all The time to go, the stream of time, you heard it on the grapevine… The sun is down And till tomorrow morning We got the moon and stars for company A different kind of energy That speaks to us eternally Now is the time for dreaming, dreaming away The parlour door, the light brigade, the missing flight you might have made The winter sky was full of stars and everything it seemed was ours The sun is down And when the night comes falling It brings familiar shadows back to me And lost for words, you seem to be An evening star, a mystery, I’m lost for words, you seem to be My evening star, my mystery
